A urine collection bag with a non-return valve (NRV) is an advanced urinary drainage system explicitly engineered to prevent the reverse flow of urine. In a standard system, backward fluid movement can carry bacteria from the collection bag into the sterile urinary tract. The integration of a one-way NRV is the fundamental clinical line of defense against ascending urinary tract infections (UTIs) and catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs).
