Scalp Vein Set
A Scalp Vein Set (commonly known as a Butterfly Needle or Winged Infusion Set) is a specialized, short-duration vascular access device. It is explicitly engineered for venipuncture in fragile, small, or difficult-to-access veins, making it an essential clinical tool for pediatric, neonatal, and geriatric patients.
Technical Specifications
Needle Properties: Features an ultra-sharp, short-beveled, siliconized thin-walled stainless steel needle to maximize fluid flow rate while minimizing insertion pain.
The "Butterfly" Wings: Two soft, flexible, medical-grade PVC wings allow the clinician to pinch the device at a shallow angle for precision skin insertion. They then fold flat to be taped flush against the patient’s skin.
Flexible Extension Tubing: Equipped with a kink-resistant, highly transparent PVC tube (typically 300 mm in length). This configuration isolates physical pulling or movement away from the venipuncture site to prevent vein blowing.
Sterilization: Individually blister-wrapped and treated with Ethylene Oxide (ETO) gas to guarantee a 100% pyrogen-free fluid pathway.
Core Clinical Applications
Short-Term Intravenous Therapy: Administering small-volume bolus medications or continuous, short-duration fluid infusions.
Precision Blood Collection: Ideal for drawing blood samples from delicate superficial veins on the back of the hand or foot.
Specialized Care Delivery: Extensively utilized in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) for access via infant scalp capillaries.
